Transfer Complete!

I have finally had enough. I have transferred from comms to Orchard Hills. So I am now getting back on the Big Red Trucks full time. This is a positive step forward for me as I felt that I was becoming stale by staying in the communications Brigade as they were making it very hard for me to get anywhere or develop any skills. My only  reason I can see for them doing this is that they feel threatened by someone considerably younger than them becoming more knowledgeable and qualified then they are. This did not become without a little sadness, as many of my friends know I was (and still am) passionate about my role in the communications brigade, but you can only take so much crap. One really good thing about transferring to Orchard hills is my new house is being built about 2 mins away from the station. So I really will be putting back into my own community. I already know the majority of members there so attending training and social nights so far has bee...

Favourite Photo - Firefighter in the Smoke

With the fire burning and the view of the Blue Mountains slowly disappearing, A NSWFB firefighter has a drip torch ready to put in a controlled burn to contain a grass fire burning in Cranebrook. I was going for a "moment" shot. to capture the point in time at which the decision was made to contain the fire using a controlled burn. In the end the drip torch was not needed as the fire made its own way up the hill and died down at its own accord.

Favourite Photo - Silhouette

My previous "Favourite Photo" showed the movement of light. this photo however shows the shadows or darkness that was a night in Nowra.  The photo is of a lone volunteer firefighter shooting water up into a tree to extinguish smoldering branches to prevent the fire from travelling up the tree and into the bush canopy. The flames in the background are part of a back burn put in to control the main fire. I think a photo like this one captures a real moment in time.
