On a beautiful winters day in Picton, warm enough not to need a jumper, I was to meet up with David, Woo, Azzie and Beau for afternoon tea. I arrived a little early to take in the quaint little town and grab a few shots of some trains. The first train I came across was a freighter. Above is the leading loco NR109.

This is the first time I have seen this loco in the wild, and yes I know what most of you are thinking "he has to get out more". I was trying for a motion blur shot and I think I got it just a little bit. What do you think?

  1. Hmm to get motion blur you need to practise a thing called panning. It is quite difficult, but I am sure you can do this.

    1. Put camera on TV or manual
    2. Pick out your point of focus, so your subject will be in focus
    3. choose a low shutter speed. This is important
    4. With elbows jammed against your body click the shutter as you swing from the hips, following your subject in the frame.

YOu should get something like this..

Trying a little positive note. Here are a few photos that I took. This is my first real attempt at this type of photography. Let me know what you think.

In an attempt to be social

I don't normally post things like this but this seems like my only source of release at the moment. Should I give up being social? Over the last week I invited 3 friends to meet up and have a coffee. None of them replied. I can understand maybe one or even two of them ignoring me but all three. Hmmm. After a crappy week I thought it would be good to meet up and have a chat with a friend but seeing I didn't get that chance, I relied on the things that always cheers me up, my beautiful wife and puppy and the progress on my new home. Thankfully not all was lost. Yesterday I attended a party for a friends birthday. It was good to just chill and have a good time. Happy Birthday Druey :-) Looks like another week ahead on the other side of happy. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

Grass Fire Cranebrook

A quiet afternoon at home after work listening to my radio, I heard NSWFB head out to a grass fire at Cranebrook. After a few messages were passed I thought this would be a great opportunity to get some shots of fire, firefighter and fire trucks. I jumped in the car and headed out. The fire lasted a few hours and allowed me to get some good shots. Here are a few from my Flickr set. Click here to view the rest.
