Transfer Complete!

NSWRFS Berkshire Park 7

I have finally had enough. I have transferred from comms to Orchard Hills. So I am now getting back on the Big Red Trucks full time. This is a positive step forward for me as I felt that I was becoming stale by staying in the communications Brigade as they were making it very hard for me to get anywhere or develop any skills.
My only  reason I can see for them doing this is that they feel threatened by someone considerably younger than them becoming more knowledgeable and qualified then they are.

This did not become without a little sadness, as many of my friends know I was (and still am) passionate about my role in the communications brigade, but you can only take so much crap.

One really good thing about transferring to Orchard hills is my new house is being built about 2 mins away from the station. So I really will be putting back into my own community.

I already know the majority of members there so attending training and social nights so far has been no dramas. All I have to do know is wait for a pager and key to the station so I can start turning out to fire calls.

A really good close friend has said to me:

"I would never expect anyone to do something that I would not do myself"

I relate this back to the RFS and it is one of the reasons I will continue to give many more years of service.

Its that time of year - Safety Competition

Yesterday was my employers annual safety competition in which I was lucky enough to compete. The morning started of with a hearty breaky of bacon and egg rolls. Over Breakfast with D and Woo, Woo showed me her new lens and explained how it works. An impressive piece and, some excellent shots were captured throughout the day by her. After that the day went into full swing! There were various displays from all the different areas of my employer and also some of the suppliers/ companies that my employer has alliances with. The idea of the day is to put our skills into practice against other people in various competitions and also to broaden our knowledge on safety. The day also allows us to have a chat to others that are from many different areas and learn about how their job has an impact on mine or vice versa. I can say I came out of yesterday more knowledgeable. The competitions I entered into were : Train Faults and Failures - T Set Waratah PP...

Favourite Photo - Flying Embers

I had only recently gotten my camera and Got called away with the RFS to head to a large fire burning in Nowra. I took my camera along to experiment with it at night as I was doing the night shift on the fireground. I took this photo when the wind came up and I noticed the trail being left in the air by the embers. I was amazed at how it turned out, seeing that I had no idea about settings or f stop or anything to do with my camera at the time.
